So Isaiah made his long awaited appearance in last nights episode, and according to our polls he divides public opinion.
I’ll come to his performance in “Paradise Lost” in my review, but 3 things are clear:
1. He’s a tremendous actor.
2. He’s offended a great number of people
3. He has a lot..and I mean ALOT of supporters. Have a look around the Internet and you will see what I mean.
So how should we judge ‘he of controversy’? Should we base our opinions on his acting or his past mistakes? Perhaps the best judge of a character is his (or her) ability to redeem themselves?
The problem with the Isaiah situation though, is that he hasn’t said “sorry” - least not that I’m aware of. He obviously feels that he was misinterpreted or screwed over by the folks at ‘Grey’s’, but still, as the saying goes, it seems that sorry seems to be the hardest word..
I’m not going to bash Isaiah, as I’m sure none of us truly know all of the facts. But at the same time I’m aware of the divided opinion that he generates. But it’s this ‘opinion’ that sparks debates and understanding and in my view this is one way to truly tackle homophobia which, remarkably, still exists today - I’m not even talking about Isaiah here, let’s face it, the world still hasn’t come to terms with people being ‘different’. How wonderful is it therefore, for us to champion and celebrate a show which explores what it’s like for someone to be ‘different’? Jaime Sommers is ‘Bionic’ - but she could just as easily be gay or a million other things that make us all ‘different’.
It’s not easy being different..having flair..becoming more sensitive to what is said about you..Jaime will find that out, she will experience the light and the shade of what it’s like to be ‘different’.
So whilst Isaiah may currently divide opinion, it is with much hope that this show will unite people and allow us all to celebrate our differences. So much so that when all is said and done, we’ll find out that we’re not so different after all and that we’re all just kinda…’super’. You too Isaiah :)
Stay tuned for all the best media reviews for this episode, my own review and the ‘Bionic Investigations’ for “Paradise Lost”. Meanwhile, check out Ryan’s views on Isaiah Washington.
